5 Tricks a Narcissist Pulls When They Know You Know
The first thing is: they deploy fake softness to disarm you. Once a narcissist realizes that you finally see through their facade, they may actually start hating you more than ever before. But they are smart enough not to show you that hatred right away, because they know your clarity has made you dangerous to them. The very first move is total damage control. They suddenly mellow down. They start talking to you nicely again. They act friendly. They become unusually reasonable, and they try very hard to bring back a sense of emotional comfort.
They may look at you with those sad eyes and say things like, “Other people are just trying to ruin our relationship, or we have known each other for so long. Why should we throw everything away over a misunderstanding?” They will bring up old happy memories and try to make the relationship sound deeply precious again. But you need to listen to this carefully: this sudden softness has absolutely nothing to do with love.
They know that an angry, alert person is a massive danger to them. So their first goal is to simply lower your anger. They want to lower your suspicion and make you comfortable enough that you put your weapons down and stop defending yourself.
